Description

There are several possible buyer options: Production buyer, component buyer or general purchase buyer. The buyer is a professional who assumes negotiation duties and the purchase of services, materials and products his company requires from approved suppliers. There are currently many companies which liaise with suppliers via the Internet, an activity which is known as e-procurement, an online supply model which in addition to reducing costs, has had an impact on the growing importance of purchasing related occupations. It is worth mentioning that purchasing represent a major cost for companies with regard to the acquisition of strategic (those destined to production) and non-strategic (role, pens, office equipment) products alike, something which leads to the constant evolution of this business department. This professional tends to specialise in a specific technology. Reports to the Purchasing Manager or Director.

Tasks

  • Select suppliers.
    Study new potential suppliers, evaluate their offers, determine which are eligible and whether these meet quality, cost, development and management requirements.
    Evaluate potential supplier alternatives and intervene in the assessment of supplier concentration or diversification.
  • Check and assess suppliers.
    Assess whether the suppliers meet pre-established criteria. Study the technical product design documentation and contribute to setting the target cost of components, materials and functions.
    Presents claims to suppliers and assess their quality standards.
  • Negotiate prices and delivery conditions
    Negotiate equipment, material, product and service contracts with approved suppliers in accordance with the purchasing policy established by the management.
    Establish short-term purchasing conditions and check their fulfilment history.
    Negotiate delivery conditions and deadlines, pricing, payment methods etc. with the suppliers.
    Handle the control, follow-up and processing of contracts, purchase orders and payment orders.
    Carry out material stock follow-up and evaluate whether or not a purchase order is required..
