CATIA Specialist

Description

This professional manages the production of plans of sets of pieces or mechanical systems, and of their decomposition into 2-dimensional planes, using the 3-dimensional prototype produced by the draughtsman as a base. The CAD/CAM (computer-aided Design / computer-aided Manufacture) tool called CATIA is used for this: a software package frequently used one in the aeronautic and rail industries. The role of this professional is to produce a representation of the object that is to be manufactured. This intermediate stage between conception and manufacture of the product is indispensable in the aerospace industry. The plans provide the visual guidelines for the stages that follow the production of an aeronautical element or device: they show the technical details of products and structures, and specify dimensions and restrictions.

Tasks

  • Take charge of the definition of views (horizontal floor level and vertical elevations) and of 3-D system or element sections provided by the draughtsman and that is necessary in the development.
  • Complete 2-dimensional plans of the model. All necessary delimitations for the subsequent manufacture of the system or element is incorporated in this phase. The use of CAD tools, such as CATIA, are important in this phase.
  • Take charge of the production of the support for the 2-dimensional plans (paper or magnetic) for its delivery to the client or to the manufacturing workshop.
