Art Director (at advertising agency)

The graphic designer for websites is the professional in an Internet project who provides all the graphic guidelines for each of the base screens for interaction with the user (interfaces). In addition, this person graphically creates all possible advertising formats, banners, pop ups, pop unders, large rectangles, monster ads, ad boosters (television advertisements), etc. Programmers and engineers later produce these designs.

Website graphic designers will have more or less tasks, depending on the type of company and structure it is working with and the complexity of the projects done. The stages in which they participate, according to the company structure, are:
  • Analyse the project.
Based on a clear definition of the website structure, made by an information systems architect or the project director, the website graphic designer studies and analyzes the contents of the project, the customer's image and that of the competition.
  • Design one or more graphic proposals.
Develop a creative idea, if not already defined by the art director, and put it into practice by graphically designing several screens to understand the creative idea of the website and its basic opersation.
These screens include all elements required for the website image and its interaction with the user: icons, texts, images, pictographs and advertising, if any.
  • Develop the graphic project and supervise its production.
Once the graphic idea is approved, develop the details of all the necessary screens so that programmers and engineers can undertake the programming and follow a perfectly defined model.
Supervise programming so that the design and images created are not skewed in any way.
