Description

This professional works on audiovisual or multimedia productions that are based on animation. The inbetweener is the artist that defines the movements and positions of drawings so that they can be animated. This work takes place after the main illustrator has defined the line models or drawings of characters, objects, scenes and backgrounds that will appear in the animation. This work precedes that of the 2D or 3D animator who gives the final movement to the drawings. The inbetweener works for the animation supervisor and directly with the animator.

Tasks

  • Participate in the creation process for animations.
Develop ideas to inspire new drawings.
Discuss ideas for drawings with creative staff and editors.
Form part of the creative process as a member of the animation team.
  • Prepare the animation.
When the main illustrator has completed line models or drawings of characters, objects, scenes and backgrounds, the inbetweener draws the movements and positions of the character drawings for later animation (this may be done manually or using computer tools).
Prepare all the material and document it so that the illustrator has the original drawings and all possible movement orders and definitions for the characters or objects.
If necessary, make changes in the original drawings to achieve more realistic movements.
  • Draws and animate secondary objects in the scene.
  • Sometimes, if there is not a specialist available, complete the animation.
If there is no animator, the inbetweener completes the animation when the main lines of character and object movements of the animation have been defined.
In this case, enter all the drawings done into a computer program and apply all orders and movements for each character so that the software helps create the 2D or 3D animation.
