Description

The designer of virtual elements participates in the production of an audiovisual digital product (films, videos, videogames, short films, advertisements, cartoon series, etc.) for the director of photography. The designer is also responsible for finishing the work of other artists and operators. This designer is competent in computer programs and uses pictorial abilities and knowledge of animation software to create the final modeling of the elements (characters, objects, backgrounds) that compose the end product. The objective is to give it an appearance that is in line with the look of the production in regard to lines, colors, shading and textures. The person that it carries out the final integration of all digitally created vehicular elements for a production (after passing through the hands of the virtual effects supervisor or the digital processing technical director) and them gives the appearance required by the director of photography.

Tasks

  • Receive and analyse all materials.
    The virtual designer receives the digital material that will form part of the audiovisual product from different sources, analyzes and organizes it to be able to integrate it into a single product.
    He follows the orders of the director of photography and analyzes the required visual lines to retouch all elements that make up the production. Help find appropriate colours and atmospheres.
  • Retouch and finish the product.
    If necessary, model the main and secondary characters, objects, scenes and backgrounds to integrate them into the production lines.
    Equalize the lines and colours of the different elements that form an online production.
    Use specialised software to give the same fill and textures to the elements of a production.
    Retouch digital textures and the finish of films, videos, videogames, short films, advertisements, cartoon series, etc.
  • Coordinate with the rest of the artistic and technical team.
    Despite the fact that their work depends on the orders of the director of photography, who will mark the line they have to follow, virtual designers also have to coordinate with other artistic and technical managers, such as the supervisor of virtual effects and the technical director of digital processes and with other technical profiles like digital-process artists and digital-image composers.
