Deputy Director of Logistics

Description

This professional lends support to the Logistics Director. The scope of his duties depends on the extent of delegation of the responsibilities and functions assigned to him by the Logistics Director. This professional operates mostly in large businesses with international logistic processes, that is, companies with production or storages facilities based in different countries and a national and international transport network. The deputy logistics manager uses computerised management systems to carry out his duties. Using these systems, he coordinates a high number of people involved in the logistics process (purchasing directors, operations and production directors, transportation and customer service managers, etc.). The broad range of situations this professional faces on a daily basis entails the need for constant negotiations, difficult decisions and the search for solutions to unexpected problems.

Tasks

  • Carries out the overall logistical planning of the company.
    Provide advice regarding the improvement of internal communications and control logistic development within the organisation.
    Study potential logistics partnerships with clients and suppliers and monitor the results of the logistic policy.
  • Assess the cost of logistics and propose corrective actions.
    Assess strategic planning costs and intervene in the implementation of the logistics policy.
    Establish human resource requirements. Monitor the management of the logistic operations.
  • Provide advice regarding technological changes.
    Advise clients and suppliers on logistical problems that can arise and examine plans and actions to be undertaken with the person in charge of each area.
  • Study and prepare standards and procedures related to security and occupational and environmental health within the logistical area.
