Description

This is the person in charge of managing the logistic operations of the company, including economic and operational aspects. Carry out strategic logistics planning for the company and take the relevant decisions. Manage Scheduling, Purchasing, Production Planning and Physical Distribution (finished product stocks, warehouses, purchase order preparation and transportation) operations, as well as the launch of new products.
Due to the increasingly competitive and global climate, the logistics manager is becoming a key figure in terms of the global strategy of the company. Whereas before, this person would only handle transport and stocks, the Logistics Director now even sits on the board of of the company. It could be said that there is a very creative component to this profile, given that the Logistics Director must constantly seek new ways to improve the logistics processes of the company.

Similarly, this professional's working day involves a great deal of liaising, given that constant communication must be maintained with suppliers, subcontracted businesses and professionals in other departments of the company in order to guarantee the smooth overall operation of the flow of materials and information. Reports to the Managing Director.

Tasks

  • Manage all activities related to the flow of materials and finished products.
  • Define the logistics systems used by the organisation and the methodology required to solve potential problems in systems and operational methods.
  • Use the results of the information obtained to review logistics plans.
  • Provide advice regarding the optimisation of the various components of the logistics chain (Supply Chain Management).
  • Establish integration and externalisation criteria applicable to logistics functions.
  • Provide advice on the use of the ICT in logistics operations.
  • Establish the criteria applicable to logistics tasks carried out jointly with clients and suppliers, aiming for the optimisation of the logistics process.
  • Assess the need for resources and the extent of the work to be done with distributors, customers and suppliers as a result.
  • Establishes general criteria regarding the rating and selection of suppliers.
  • Work with the sales department to establish strategic customer service criteria, defining the relevant objectives from a logistic point of view.
  • Draw up the global logistics plan.
  • Chair the company's general planning committee where the sales, production and supply programme is drawn up.
  • Take strategic decisions, aiming for global profits and economies of scale according to market needs.
  • Evaluate the necessary requirements with regard to logistics investments and provide advice regarding the logistic commitments of the company in terms of cost/investment.
  • Establish management and control standards applicable to company logistics.
  • Intervene in the definition of the environmental policy of the company.
  • Draw up logistics plans and operations on behalf of operational managers and administrators.
  • Define the criteria applicable to the intermodality and traceability of the flow of products.
  • In line with the general objectives of the company, define the organisation of the relevant departments and facilities according to global optimisation criteria.
