Directors of communication are responsible for designing and managing organisations' communication strategies. Their decisions often affect the whole organisation and, as such, they must form part of the management team. The person in charge of the communication department must have a thorough knowledge of the organisation for which they work, as well as its culture, and be able to use appropriate strategies in order to convey it both internally and externally. Similarly, they are responsible for managing the communication department and its team in order to ensure the quality of the organisation's corporate image. Depending on the size of the company and the nature of the team that makes up the communication department, they may only have a managerial function, planning and managing the team, or may also carry out executive functions, such as managing press relations, the advertising media plan and spokesperson-related tasks.
