Description

Directors of communication are responsible for designing and managing organisations' communication strategies. Their decisions often affect the whole organisation and, as such, they must form part of the management team. The person in charge of the communication department must have a thorough knowledge of the organisation for which they work, as well as its culture, and be able to use appropriate strategies in order to convey it both internally and externally. Similarly, they are responsible for managing the communication department and its team in order to ensure the quality of the organisation's corporate image. Depending on the size of the company and the nature of the team that makes up the communication department, they may only have a managerial function, planning and managing the team, or may also carry out executive functions, such as managing press relations, the advertising media plan and spokesperson-related tasks.

Tasks

  • Design the organisation's communication strategies. Establish objectives that the company wants to reach in terms of communication material and setting the tools and strategies that will be used to achieve them.
  • Achieve a broad knowledge of the company or institution, its culture and values
  • Analysis of studies relating to the company image.
  • Design and management of the internal and external communication of the company.
  • Involve the entire company, especially governing bodies, in the company's communication strategy, increasing awareness of the importance of communication.
  • Evaluation of strategies of applied communication, and their correction and improvement, where necessary. Assess results.
According to the size of the company and of the volume of professionals of the department of communication, other more executive tasks can be taken on in this position:
  • Spokesman's tasks
  • Press officer or management of the company's media relationships.
  • Management of the internal communication of the company.
  • Management of publicity.
  • Management of patronage and sponsorship programmes in the company.
  • Management of the company's audiovisual productions.
  • Management of the institutional relationships and public relations of the company.
