Computer graphics specialist

The computer graphics designer is dedicated to processing images in journalism (computer graphics journalism). They convert written information into graphic elements such as, for example, charts, drawings, tables, diagrams, organisational charts, etc. Their objective is to summarise the essential content of the news with complete clarity and in a concise manner. The computer graphics journalist must offer a professional two-fold vision: that of journalism and that of graphic design. They usually work under pressure to meet deadlines.

  • Seek, analyse and summarise information.
Analyse the information that will be converted into a graphic icon and study the various ways to visually present the information in most obvious way possible. If the project requires a specific documentation search or personal interview, they do not hesitate in carrying these out.
To make proposals, they must take into account this information's level of importance, its journalistic novelty and, together with the art director or computer graphics manager, the specific weight that the graphic icon will have in the whole set of news.
  • Design various graphic options for each piece of news.
Prepare a graphic proposal that complements or substitutes the news text. They will use iconographic and typography resources to achieve it.
Once the graphic idea has been approved, create the final design for its inclusion in the news layout on the newspaper page.
