This occupation has its origins in private detectives, although this field is in turn divided into several other subfields. Thus, they may specialise in investigating thefts of property protected by copyright law or on defining the financial profiles of clients, suppliers or possible partners, among others, depending on the clients they wish to work with and their needs.

Tasks

The types of investigations carried out by investigators may involve the following tasks:
  • Verifying specific facts or data of interest to the client company.
  • Protecting people.
  • Verifying people's CVs prior to them joining the company.
  • Defining and confirming the financial profile of particular clients, suppliers or potential partners.
In order to be able to carry out these investigations, investigators must perform certain tasks, including:
  • Observing and interviewing people connected with the subjects under investigation in order to gather as much information as possible.
  • Searching various databased.
  • In certain cases, providing legal or financial advice to the client company.
