Pedagogical farm head teacher. Farm school head teacher

Educational farm head teachers run educational centres, generally featuring animals and in rural locations, whose mission may involve both the organisation of fun and educational activities aiming to provide direct contact with nature and the world of animals, and running permanent activities within the framework of care (social or health-related) or educational programmes, based on animal-assisted therapy or outdoor therapy techniques. Educational farms may also offer care and maintenance services for pets. In their capacity as educational, existential and therapeutic organisations, educational farms tend to enter into service provision agreements with government bodies or non-governmental associations, and often operate on a non-profit basis.

  • Plan and organise the educational farm's methodology.
Draw up and organise a programme of fun, recreational, educational and care activities, which may or may not be contracted with public administrations or non-governmental organisations.
Design activities in line with the characteristics and needs of their clients (students, incarcerated children, drug addicts, groups with physical, mental or sensory disabilities, etc.).
Manage the financial resources and take care of the business management of the centre (budgetary control, accounting, etc.).
Design marketing plans to promote the centre, where it operates for-profit services.
Establish and spread awareness of the centre's pedagogical approach.
Establish and spread awareness of specific health and safety standards, and ensure compliance.
  • Plan, manage and oversee tasks relating to care and maintenance of the farm animals.
Draw up the plan for monitoring the medical and health-related requirements for each species of animal kept at the farm (vaccination, major diseases, pest control, reproductive schedule, etc.).
Draw up feeding regime plans (timetables, foods, ...), depending on the farm animals' physiological needs and their suitability in terms of the farm's natural ecosystem.
  • Plan, manage and oversee tasks relating to care for and maintenance of the necessary infrastructure and equipment for the maintenance of the animals.
Establish the basic requirements for the animals' resources, infrastructure and facilities, depending on the spatial and physiological needs of each subspecies, and their suitability in terms of the farm's ecosystem.
  • Design and direct the training activities performed at the farm.
Direct the teaching staff and plan fun, recreational, care or training activities, particularly if the farm serves as a permanent residence for certain groups.
Oversee the individual assessment of people who reside in the centre, according to the learning, social rehabilitation or healthcare purposes for which they have been sent to the farm.
Draw up or oversee records or individual reports and certify whether people have met their targets, depending on the reasons for which they are at the farm.
  • Represent the educational farm externally throughout the territory.
Enter into contact with companies and organisations (including other farms or similar centres) in relation to the promotion of training activities or trips, or in order to contract services.
  • Coordinate the human and animal resources.
Establish criteria for the integrated management of the staff affiliated with the farm (instructors, carers, pedagogues, psychologists, etc.).
