Description

The technical of therapies with animals designs, develops and implements therapeutic activities based on interaction with animals (dolphins, horses, dogs and cats, farm animals) as a working method and instrument to achieve improvements in the physical, psychic, sensory and social recovery processes of people with disabilities (physical, psychic, sensory or mental disorder), either as specific activities or as complementary activities in the framework of a more generic social or health program.

Tasks

The technical of therapies with animals carries out the following tasks:
  • Check the person's medical history or interprets his/her diagnosis in order to establish the program and specifically direct animal therapy sessions in the areas of motor planning (mainly mobility, balance and spatial orientation), communication and sensory or social integration of people.
  • Evaluates the need for intervention of each person, especially in the physiological, psychological and neurological aspects, through the interpretation of medical reports, and with the help of tests or measuring instruments that help to make the diagnosis of the person. Meets the family members or other professionals who interact with the patients, especially if they are children in order to coordinate the therapeutic work with the people who live or spend time with them.
  • Individually or along with other professionals, designs a personalized treatment and therapy appropriate to people's problems or pathologies in order to improve their physical, mental, sensory, communicative or social rehabilitation processes and based on the animal and its interaction with the person as a working method and instrument.
  • Select the most suitable animal for the exercises and activities to be carried out with the person so that the personality and physical characteristics of the animal are adapted to the objectives of the therapy and the characteristics of the person.
  • Accompany the person during animal therapy sessions within the relevant facilities or enclosure following the guidelines of the selected exercises. He/she guides the animal's three-dimensional movements of the animal and its interaction with the person.
  • Analyses the person's response to the animal, measures its progress and modifies the therapy sessions depending on the progress achieved.
