Description

A mechanical engineer is a professional with the requisite knowledge to be able to work in any of an automotive company's various departments (technical office, production, quality controls, etc..). As such, these technicians work across various departments. Nowadays, due to the progressive automation of production processes in the automotive sector, mechanical engineers have an increasing importance from the point of view of production, whether engaged specifically in machining, assembly, or quality control, amongst others. They are also present in technical offices, carrying out product design tasks or working in areas such as oil hydraulics, pneumatics, etc. Mechanical engineers must have a close working relationship with other technicians in the company such as electrical and electronical engineers, among others, since companies' manufacturing processes are entirely mechanised.

Tasks

Mechanisation has a fundamental role in the manufacturing process, where the automotive sector is concerned. Generally speaking, the manufacturing process for both final products, such as vehicles, and intermediate ones, which include the various components, relies on mechanical systems.Tasks performed include the following:
  • Design and develop new products.
  • Take action to modify pieces and subsequently monitoring these.
  • Develop coupling equipment.
  • Monitor the production or modification of moulds and dies, alongside suppliers.
  • Produce samples and prototypes.
  • Define the industrialisation process.
  • Responsible for managing and monitoring projects.
  • Oversee and contribute to constant improvement of production process.
  • Plan and organise workload.
