Description

An expert in the application of IT to foodstuff traceability is an expert professional in Information Technologies and Communication (ICT). He/she will collaborate with food industries in the design, implementation and maintenance of traceability systems that will assist in the location and tracking of all raw materials, ingredients and containers used, as well as foodstuffs manufactured and sold to customers. This traceability system is mandatory and has been introduced throughout the foodstuff sector, since the 1 January 2005.

Tasks

  • Carry out a technical study of the project: Review the present situation of the food industry and compare and contrast with current regulations and future guidelines.
  • Prepare the relevant documentation so as to inform the food industry of guidelines and required actions for the fulfillment of regulations, according to the initial state detected.
  • Coordinate the design of the traceability system that adapts to needs and possibilities of the client company.
  • Coordinates and monitors the system implementation:
    Manage and monitor the supply of materials, equipment, tools and products needed.
    Parametrisation of specific solutions.
    Connectivity with various systems that are part of the food supply chain.
    Implementation and configuration of software. Equipment for data capture and logging, printing and labelling.
    Integration of different environments to the traceability system.
  • Coordinate testing plans to certify the correct implementation of the system.
  • Provides support and maintenance service to the food industry to ensure the correct continuity of the system in place.
  • Coordinate and/or give training to the staff of the food-industry client to promote the traceability system in place and how its affects their daily routine.
  • Coordinates the revision of the system (operation simulation tests) and proposes corrective actions (if necessary, for operational deviations) or the extension of the system if the food industry has somehow expanded or modified its activity (elaborate a new food; change suppliers; it has more than one manufacturing plant, etc.).
  • When you work for a small business, and given that needs of smaller companies are less complex, you can be involved in the development of tasks more related to the design and development of the traceability system that will be put in place by the company, via the use and adaptation of already-existing programmes and technologies.
