The sound engineer is the professional that manipulates and perfects the sound (recorded voice, music and sound effects) of any musical recording, audiovisual or live performance. This professional can work in the music industry in the recording field (recorded music) introducing effects, improving the clarity and defining the volume of each of the musical tracks and instruments, in the technical control of radio programs and the sound control of live performances, such as concerts or other types of events including musical theater that is becoming more popular nowadays. The profile is also essential in the audio-visual sector (both television and cinema), where the sound engineer controls the audio from all cameras and microphones to mix, modify, improve and adapt it to the pace of the image. The sound engineer also adds the soundtrack and sound effects to films, documentaries and TV series.


  • Modulate, transform, handle and improve upon all types of sounds through music and sound effects, using sound and musical computer programs.
    Introduce or record sounds on a computer support using audio editing programs.
    Create sound effects that will then be included on the record, program or film.
  • Retouch and modify the different audio sources of the project.
    Controls any sound input that will form part of the end product (sounds from different microphones, instruments, sound effects, voices, etc.) and which vary considerably depending on whether it is a record, a live programme, a film or a live event.
    Retouch and improve the sound of each of the tracks (sometimes during live recording and others in the studio).
    Sequence the sound according to the previously established plan.
  • Edit the audio.
    Integrate all sound sources so that they sound like a group and form the audio of the product (live voices, dubbing, soundtracks of films, sound effects, different instruments on a record, etc.).
    Define the importance and intensity of each of the sounds.
  • Integrate the audio on the target support.
    Move the audio comprised of all the sounds to the target support or element (toy, electronic toy, interactive game, multimedia production, digital, audiovisual product, etc.).
    In the event of working with an audiovisual or multimedia supports, verify that all audio goes with the images.
