Description

Graphics software engineers specialise in software creation and development for production processes in virtual environments and visual effects (interactive images, 2D and 3D images, etc.). Like all programmers, graphics software engineers generate instructions in a language that the computer can "read". They work with the suitable language for the type of software they programme, including C++ or Java. Like other programmers, graphics software engineers also test their applications, resolving any problems they have, finding and correcting errors and documenting the program for users.

Tasks

  • Define and develop computer programs.
Plan and develop programs that meet the requirements necessary to produce visual effects. These include: tools for modeling, character and illumination animation; shading editors, interactive and composition images; particle systems, etc.
  • Develop software to solve problems specific to 2D and 3D creation: provide tools to artists and animators so that they can create animations in 2D and 3D.
Know the needs and working methods of artists and creators to offer them the ideal tools for performing their job.
Use "object oriented" languages such as Java or C++ to compile programs.
  • Update, modify and repair applications.
Develop plug-ins (small computer programs that improve the main applications and cover its deficiencies) for commercially available graphics applications as well as those especially developed for a company or working group.
Work on the continuing development of applications and implement new functionalities such as classifications for graphs and ambience programmers.
    Detect errors and resolve them.
  • Analyze or manage the analysis of programs.
Ensure the correct performance of any modifications or new functionalities added to the main software or to the plug-ins created.
Perform the role of multimedia artist or creator and use (or make others use) before executing the final programming.
