Description

The Food Legislation Expert is the professional who coordinates all aspects related to the regulations that affect any food company. Their aim is to ensure that the marketed food complies with all the requirements set forth by current legislation and to ensure that the food companies are prepared to assume the obligations that result from the current regulations that affect them, and/or which could affect them in the future.

Tasks

  • Manage the internal databases on food legislation, or act as the contact person with the provider of legislative alert services.
  • Stay up-to-date with all the current regulations that affect the foods prepared by the company and inform the departments involved of how they are affected and what measures they have to take to adapt.
  • Stay up-to-date with the proposals of new regulations and/or future modifications of the current regulations in order to anticipate the changes, studying how they will affect the company at all levels (for ex.: products, raw materials, containers, processes, waste).
  • Inform the departments involved of new legislative developments and how these will affect them so that they can prepare for them and take the necessary measures.
  • Inform, advise and suggest changes in all the areas of the company (research, development and innovation, production, quality, marketing, sales, human resources, occupational safety, the environment, consumer communication, etc.) in order to adapt to food legislation.
  • Advise on and assess the possible changes, together with the company's departments that are involved, and decide which will be most optimal, from all points of view, included legal.
  • Audit the compliance with the current regulations in the company's field.
  • Manage the documentation that certifies compliance with the current legislation.
  • Advise and/or act as a representative with suppliers, clients, administrations and associations in relation to matters regarding legal food regulations, in many cases to give the company's point of view and be able to influence a final resolution in the interests of the company.
  • Coordinate, and in some cases execute, training or informational activities for the company's staff regarding food legislation.
  • Coordinate the company's departments which are involved when the entity wants to obtain an official certification for its food or beverage products, such as a Designation of Origin or Quality Mark.
  • Detect possibilities for grants and aid that are published by the administrations for which the company can apply (for ex.: R&D&I aid: Research, Development and Innovation; aid for obtaining a Designation of Origin; for the implementation of quality and safety management systems; for training, etc).
