Layout designer

Description

The art editor works with the art or design team of magazines, both digital and print magazines. They are responsible for ensuring that the publication conveys a similar and consistent appearance for its audience throughout all its content, via the correct placement of images and text. Art editors make sure that the publications have a pleasant look and are easy to read.

Tasks

  • Design the pages and ensure that the most appropriate images and photographs are used.
  • Discuss ideas with the journalists and publishing team.
  • Work with the self-employed designers, illustrators and photographers in order to decide which images are most suitable for conveying the concept of the publication.
  • Create the design of the magazine's cover and decide on the titles and subtitles, which news will be highlighted, which font will be used for each and the images that will accompany everything.
  • Establish an overall style for the publication, ensuring that all the issues follow this style.
  • Re-design the publication so that it stays up-to-date and anticipate trends or audience requirements.
