Road safety education technician

Description

The role of the road safety instructor is currently growing in importance in our society, since it addresses the demand for education and training on the subject of road safety. This demand involves, on the one hand, raising awareness of road safety, and on the other, changing people's attitudes when travelling, regardless of the location. This profession is largely associated with the Administration, who tends either to have one of these professionals on its books, or to hire these services from private companies.

Tasks

  • IN-SCHOOL TRAINING: Plan and provide teaching support for schools in the area of mobility and road safety. This means that, among the followings, they:
Provide support to schools, contributing to mobility training, i.e., helping to change the attitudes of school children when travelling on foot, in public transport, as family vehicle or coach passengers on school trips and on the way to and from school and home.
Provide support to schools on other road safety issues, both where road safety is taught as a separate subject and leading specific road safety programmes within schools.
Schedule and manage educational projects such as the "Camino escolar" (School Path) in conjunction with the educational community, local residents and the Public Administration. Participate in the publication of teaching material.
  • IN-COMPANY TRAINING: Plan permanent training to be delivered.
Schedule continued training such as, for example, retraining programmes for certain groups of drivers (offenders, drink drivers, etc.).
If working at service firms, plan each company's training programme in line with its specific needs. Companies, in particular those where mobility is prevalent, require regular road safety training, in order to raise awareness of any developments in the area, updating knowledge and reinforcing good road safety practices.
  • IN-GOVERNMENT TRAINING: Some town councils have established alternatives to traffic fines.
The amendment to the 2001 Road Safety Law stipulates that offenders may attend driving rehabilitation courses either fully or partially in lieu of traffic sanctions (article 67, Law 19/2001, amending the sections in the Law on Traffic and Road Safety). In this regard, road safety technicians design and schedule training courses to help change people's behaviour in relation to road safety or awareness sessions about the consequences of traffic accidents.
  • TRAINING AND AWARENESS-RAISING ACTIVITIES: Design road safety awareness campaigns.
These campaigns may be general or aimed at particular risk groups: young people, the elderly, motorcyclists...
They are involved in both the design and the execution of the campaign.
