Hairdresser for TV, Cinema, Fashion, Theatre etc...

Description

Hairdressing professional specialised in television, cinema and event work. The objective of this work is to achieve the right image for the person who has to appear before a public. This hairdresser works with television presenters and guests, assisting in the characterisation of cinema fiction, publicity or theatre personalities and meticulously do haor for photoshoots and fashion shows. Work closely with make-up artists and stylists, if necessary. The hairdresser will be required to work on productions and filmings on many occasions.

Tasks

  • Carry out the tasks typical of a skilled hairdressing worker, with the particularity of having to do so according to the requirements of the production team, the script, characters, etc.
  • Appropriately adapt and prepare hairstyles according to the artistic requirements of the script, in a manner which either creative or realistic, depending on the case at hand.
  • Read the fiction scripts to be worked around before speaking with the director, producer and actors to exchange opinions and define the image criteria to be applied to each one of the characters.
  • Pay attention to the number of persons to be style in order to stay within the work schedule, and ensure access to the necessary equipment and professional support. Must be aware of the budget devoted to the make-up department form the very beginning.
  • Has an important role in the characterisation team and coordinate his/her efforts with the make-up director. Efficiently execute hairstyles matching different eras and settings through the appropriate use of materials and accessories such as wigs, hairpieces, extensions and other ornaments.
  • Adapt hairstyles to adverse weather conditions: rain, wind, etc.
  • Must have an outstanding ability to react on-the-spot, work fast and respond well to time-pressure.
  • Pay attention to link shots between different scenes, ensuring the continuity and consistency of hairstyles. Must have previous knowledge of the shots in order to achieve specific effects or remove others.
  • Provide backup on set, whether during a film shoot, TV shoot , performance, photo shoot, etc. to touch up hairstyles at any time.
  • Must occasionally do previous documentary research to find out more about the person to be styled, his/her preferences, usual look, etc.
  • Create and keep a portfolio which should include photographs of all previous works, to be used as a personal presentation when looking for new work.
  • Keep in constant contact with producers or companies providing project work in order to be able to apply for new projects, productions, etc.
  • If working on a freelance basis, keep track of expenses and issue the relevant invoices. Must keep check of his/her work calendar.
