Description

This person works at restaurants and is responsible for creating and making pizzas. Pizza chefs specialise in making dough and combining different types of crusts and ingredients. Their job mixes some cooking techniques and knowledge with other work more typical of bakers. The popularity of this type of product has led to authentic specialisation in the culinary arena.

Tasks

  • Select the most suitable raw materials in order to make pizzas.
  • Make different types of dough, administering the proportion of the ingredients required and ensuring the mixture is left to rest for the right amount of time in order to achieve the maximum degree of fermentation.
  • Make different types of bases.
  • Clean ingredients.
  • Cut and slice different raw materials to desired size.
  • Shape the pizza by spreading the dough in such a way as to achieve the diameter, weight and thickness desired (in some cases pizza chefs toss pizzas in front of clients)
  • Make pizzas, with different ingredients used for the topping, depending on the order.
  • Put the pizza in the oven and take it out, keeping tabs on the time and cooking temperature.
  • Be proficient with the cooking techniques required by different types of oven (gas, wood-fired, electric).
  • Cut the pizza into slices using the pizza cutter, if it is to be sold in slices.
  • Ensure the compliance of health and safety standards at the workplace.
  • Ensure raw materials are properly conserved and stored.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the work area for which they are responsible.
  • Design new types of pizzas, responding to customers' taste and demands.
