Shop manager

Description

Managers of food shops manage the sales floor, assuring that the objectives are met with respect to turnover and implementing the policies defined by sales management, with the aim of keeping and making the client portfolio loyal. In the food sector, product quality and good presentation are essential and shop managers must uphold the company standards. They are responsible for guaranteeing food quality of the products on the shop shelves and in the coolers, both of perishable goods and products with different expiry dates. They normally report to the sales director or manager.

Tasks

  • Oversee and manage personnel from different shop departments, if there is more than one. Train the team on working techniques and procedures.
  • Act as liaison between shop personnel and management.
  • Supervise and control different sections of the shop, if there is more than one. Responsible for assuring that different sections work independently and according to total quality criteria.
  • Organise and distribute the staff's tasks (shop assistants, cashiers, etc). According to available people, must design work organisation to assure that the shop runs well and clients are satisfied.
  • Manage and supervise stocks (perishable goods and products with different expiry dates), control stocks and proper replacement of products from the warehouse to the display shelves.
  • Uodate the prices.
  • Oversee shop displays to assure that all products in each range are present and located in the proper place.
  • Execute marketing initiatives established by sales management or senior management.
  • Oversee administrative shop tasks, including closing the till, hiring/dismissing personnel, suppliers' delivery notes, incidents, returns, etc.
  • Control shop expenses (payments as applicable) and responsible for closing the till.
  • Assure a good corporate image, acting as public relations and representive with clientele.
  • According to the type of business, they may also have the authority to select part of the product to be sold.
  • Also sometimes in charge of selecting personnel needed at the point of sale or for the establishment, where the final decision is made by management or the HR dept.
