Operations manager; Operations control manager.

Description

Operations managers are responsible for overseeing and coordinating the different departments involved in a company's production processes, from production to maintenance, storage and logistics. This coordinating task includes the development of technical services, the product in the industrial process, the comissioning of the plant and mass production. They perform these tasks in collaboration with the quality assurance department, under the supervision of the company's technical management and with regular interaction with the different supervisors and employees in all of the departments. Generally speaking, the person who takes on this role boasts extensive experience, which means that these professionals normally come from positions such as production or process engineer at the company, posts with similar amount of responsibility as that of the production manager.

Tasks

  • Oversee and coordinate operations relating to production, maintenance, storage and internal logistics.
    Ensure that all new processes, products and facilities developed or used by their unit are put through a suitable risk identification and assessment process.
    Manage and plan the production, coordinating the different teams involved.
    Actively contribute to the optimisation of the procedures performed by the production unit.
    Plan and ensure the continuity and efficiency of production measures, reducing costs and meeting the demands of internal or external clients, where time is concerned.
    Complete the procedural handbook, determining the start-up schedule and the technical criteria for costs.
  • Design the strategies, start-up and control mechanisms for the operational aspects, within their area of responsibility.
    Organise, carry out and monitor the production process for their unit, ensuring compliance with the quality and productivity standards and deadlines established by the company.
    Define, establish and assess the targets within their area of responsibility, complying with those targets set from above, requesting any resources required in order to fulfil them.
    Ensure that any incidents arising during the operation of his/her unit are duly recorded, reported and investigated.
    Review and propose monitoring and analysis systems for the processes in which they are involved, organising and overseeing the execution of the system established.
    Employ Six Sigma type management and target-based manufacturing systems in order to develop the operations within their responsibility.
    Adopt and ensure compliance with the necessary corrective and preventive measures in response to incidents, inspections, audits, etc.
    Undertake the implementation of the company's strategic policies in conjunction with the Management Committee.
  • Manage and deploy the necessary technical and human resources in order to meet the company's targets.
    Define the responsibilities associated within their area of authority, delegating and communicating tasks and ensuring that these are understood by the staff.
    Ensure that all of their unit's staff is properly trained and is able to perform the tasks they are assigned, communicating any training needs identified.
    Undertake the strategic management of the technology at the plant in order to coordinate new demands in the sector with new technologies on the market.
    Identify market training actions together with the technical supervisor and the activity managers.
    Develop the human and material resources provided, in order to improve the plant's quality and productivity.
  • Ensure compliance with deadlines, quality criteria and budgets, guaranteeing client satisfaction.
    Ensure that the needs of internal or external clients are fully met at all times, within their area of responsibility.
    Deal with all clients who so require, tailoring the service provided to their needs and advising and informing them about the trials and projects carried out.
