The calculation and design of moulds is made in accordance with the pieces to be manufactured in plastic product manufacturing companies. Alternatively, this can take place in a mould manufacturing company that designs and manufactures the moulds in accordance with the technical characteristics supplied by the client company and features of the plastic material during the manufacturing process (temperature and pressure).

The mould's engineer works on the design, development and manufacture of moulds for their use in the production process. The moulds engineer also intervenes in the calculations and re-design of moulds when the client wishes to make modifications that do not require the manufacture of a new mould.
