Turning Specialist

Description

The turner combines chip extraction machining knowledge along with experience in the use of the lathe, whether it is conventional or if it uses numerical control techniques, and must understand drawings for how the piece has to be turned. In the case of turning on a conventional lathe, you must have the ability to combine different parameters (distances, speed, etc.) to obtain piece desired dimensions. However, CNC turning is increasingly being used in manufacturing, that is, the use of a lathe to machine revolving pieces using software with alphanumeric data along the Cartesian X and Y axes. This type of turning is more suitable for large quantities and great precision production.

Tasks

Tasks carried out by the turner are the following:
  • Understand the technical specifications for pieces mechanization (drawings and pieces details).
  • Carry out all the turning operations (pieces placement, control of their dimensions, mechanization monitoring, pieces removal). In the case of numerical control (CNC) lathes, the turner must know numerical control handling.
  • Perform quality control tasks on the machine.
  • Numerical control lathes preparation.
