VJ

Description

The work of a video jockey is similar to that of a disc jockey but instead of mixing music, they mix video sequences, usually in synchronization with a musical base. They usually work in discotheques, bars or night clubs complementing the work of the disc jockey or musicians. They project prepared video sequences, mixing them live and trying to combine them with musical structures to create a harmonic event. This type of work is starting to spread to other fields.

Tasks

  • Create the sequences that form part of the repertory.
Browse the Internet or search among cinema DVDS, documentaries... sequences that offer possibilities. In some cases, record sequences with a videocamera so that they can be used in sessions.
Cut, edit and compose the original sequences by altering images so that they have coherent aesthetics.
Organize these sequences so that they can be easily found when needed.
  • Prepare the session.
Define the type of session to be presented with the disc jockey, group of musicians and/or the client. Select among the video repertoire those to be used in the session according to the schedule, the public, impact to be created and the music it accompanies.
In some cases edit and retouch the composition of the sequences to adapt them to the specific effect to be created. Plan possible combinations and their order according to the type of session. Define where and how the videos will be projected with people and/or technicians responsible for the auditorium or event. In some cases, prepare and set up the projection equipment and screens.
  • Perform the session.
Using programs for this purpose and from the selected repertory, define the sequences to be projected and how they will be mixed, depending on the music.
