Sales consultant; car salesman/woman

Description

These professionals are responsible for selling motor vehicles (cars, vans, lorries, quad bikes, motorcycles, scooters, etc.) and other associated products, such as spare parts, additional accessories and vehicle maintenance products, among others. Sales technicians offer specialised technical advice, with the aim of reaching or surpassing the sales targets set by the organisation. Generally speaking, these products are not sold on the spot, but rather it takes various visits to the shop for the customer to make a final decision. These are highly technical and expensive products and consumers expect to get significant benefits from them. The fact that so many factors are involved makes the buying process much longer than in other areas. These professionals usually report to the shop manager or the company management.

Tasks

  • Greet and serve customers when they come into the shop.
  • Understand and identify the needs of customers, using relevant technical media and the protocols laid out for each case.
  • Inform, advise and guide customers with regards to the products in which they show interest. Prepare quotes/estimates and inform customers of delivery dates.
  • Maintain regular contact with customers in order to remain aware of their final decision.
  • Where customers request financing, handle the administrative process with the relevant financial institution.
  • Pass on vehicle or part orders to the relevant supplier. Handle the administrative process relating to the receipt of vehicles from suppliers.
  • Handle the process for the valuation of vehicles to be handed in by customers when they receive their new car, where applicable.
  • Prepare new vehicles, in line with the standards laid out by the brand, and deal with delivery to customers.
  • Where customers order accessories, they are responsible for obtaining these and overseeing their fitting.
  • Offer a thorough explanation of how the vehicle works and provide any information the customer requests.
  • Sometimes, they may be responsible for physically monitoring the arrival of vehicles to the dealership (receipt of vehicles, storage, periodic inspections, where necessary, stock control, etc.).
  • Responsible for commercial administrative formalities (insurance for vehicles available in the workshop, official documentation for vehicles, registering with and de-registering from the Directorate General of Traffic, etc.).
  • Maintain the client base and ensure the quality of the after-sale service through regular contact, in order to build customer loyalty for possible future purchases.
  • They may take on the role of manager, in the absence of this figure. They may also sometimes deal with cash and take payment from customers.
