The art director defines the graphic image of the project being developed, from press releases, company catalogs, advertising cinema, multimedia or Internet projects. In addition, they also present and defend the project before the customer and coordinate the preproduction and production phases. The art director follows the evolution of the media and communication tendencies and styles of different publics or sectors of society. This profile is also found in publishing.


  • Analyze the project or graphic product.
    Study the communication objectives defined for the project, as well as the profile of the company or institution commissioning the project.
    In the case of a printed publication, study the elements to be combined on each page.
    Consider the different types graphic resolution, styles or trends.
  • Design different graphic proposals for one or more creative ideas.
    Design the graphic elements of the project, the distribution of images, texts and holders, illustrations, graphic elements, colors, etc.
  • Coordinate and manage the preproduction and production of the project.
    Manage other professionals collaborating in the same team or contracted outside during development of the graphic proposal. These professionals may include graphic designers with a more technical approach, photographers, illustrators, animators, producers, etc. Supervise the material for final production: master copies for printing, the final layout of the newspaper or audiovisual, and the production of virtual elements.
  • Responsible for customer relationships.
    The art director is responsible, together with the creative director, of presenting the project to the customer and defending it.
