Description

This professional is responsible for teaching contents and values to students between 6 and 12 years of age, and works in primary education. The teacher controls the class, prepares the subject matter, evaluates and accompanies the student throughout the learning process. The curriculum determines what is to be taught using a certain method or educational process to explain the subject.

Tasks

The tasks carried out by the elementary school teacher are summarized below:
  • Provide all the children withthe skills that allow them to ensure their personal and social development; that is, to acquire cultural and social skills and abilities regarding oral expression and understanding, reading and writing, calculation, equal rights and opportunities between men and women, personal autonomy, shared responsibility and personal interdependence, problem solving and working knowledge of science, culture and coexistence, and the rejection of all types of sex-related discriminatory behaviour.
  • Actas as a tutor for a group of students, guiding them to better personal growth and social inclusion. The tutorials with students should contribute to creating positive group dynamics and involve the student body in the dynamics of the centre.
  • Maintain relationships with the families or legal guardians of the students through individual meetings or tutorils, and control the academic and other types documentation required.
  • Work on operating procedures together with families for the coordination and follow-up of the learning process and other aspects of personal development, educational guidance and coexistence and cooperation with other students.
  • Ensure the personal development of students and the progressive achievement of core skills.
  • Coordinate with other teachers working with the same student body to elaborate and adapt the curriculum to its specific needs and characteristics.
  • Generally follow-up the student body and establish any actions required to improve the learning process in accordance with the educational project of the centre.
  • Assess the student body in accordance with the established regulations and the educational project of the centre and to adopt the corresponding decisions regarding promotion.
  • Perform any other function established by the Department of Education or stipulated in the orientation plan and tutorial action of the centre.
  • Resolve any learning problems that may appear and share all the information required to work in coordination with other teachers.
