Description

These professionals are responsible for managing projects related to the maintenance of railway network infrastructures, and the teams in charge of carrying them out. The railway network maintenance projects managed by these professionals take in all of the systems and elements that make up the network, and may include: renewal of the rails and catenary systems, clean-up work, trenches and wedges, rail safety systems, among other electrical, mechanical and electronic maintenance tasks.

Tasks

The main responsibilities of a railway maintenance engineer are:
  • To supervise and monitor maintenance projects on the railway infrastructure network. Specifically, to monitor corrective maintenance and ensure compliance with the preventive maintenance programmes.
  • To analyse anomalies detected through the supervision and monitoring of maintenance projects and, on the basis of these results, produce reports, statistics and documents which serve to improve the maintenance of the fleet.
  • To provide technical support to railway infrastructure maintenance units.
  • To coordinate the following, alongside different departments of the company where they work and/or with external parties:
    • Infrastructure management units responsible for planning and monitoring comprehensive maintenance projects.
    • Management solutions and services for the development of projects that involve the various departments.
    • External engineering companies dedicated to developing technical projects and improving maintenance of the railway network.
    • To collaborate in drafting and keeping track of the expenditure, investment and staff budgets relating to maintenance of the railway infrastructure network.
    • To collaborate in drawing up and monitoring railway infrastructure maintenance targets.
