Forensic dentist

Description

These professionals are involved in the resolution of legal cases through their odontological expertise. Their work includes issues related to civil, criminal and labour law. The dental expertise and techniques used to resolve legal issues can be diverse, although in most cases knowledge of dental traumatology, prostheses, operations and a basic scientific background serving as the foundation for their dental expertise are involved. It is important to distinguish between dental experts who work for or are called upon by the public administration and those who work in the private sector. In the case of the former, dentists may be called upon to serve as a dental expert at any stage in the legal process, i.e. in both pretrial or preliminary proceedings and in hearings. Meanwhile, professionals in the private sector generally work for insurance firms or companies which determine the truthfulness of a victim's claim, whether in connection with malpractice or an accident.
