Description

These professionals advise client companies about information and knowledge management systems, with a view to designing and implementing improvement plans to increase the effectiveness the processes carried out. Knowledge consultants should know the company's needs and must identify both its weak points, in order to introduce any necessary changes, and its strategic points, to improve their effectiveness. It can be said that an organisation's knowledge is made up of its processes and procedures, its human resources and the transfer and storage of information, in other words, of highly valuable intangible assets. Managing the flow of information between these parties effectively is tantamount to managing knowledge, which is considered a strategic factor for innovative companies. To this effect, knowledge management consultants aim to save time and effort, reduce the number of errors made and channel and boost organisations' human capital in order to make them more comptetitive.

Tasks

  • Together with the client, analyse the key knowledge (know-how) possessed by the company.
    Listen to the client's needs and advise them about the importance of managing the company's knowledge.
    Audit the company's knowledge.
    Identify the company's strengths and weaknesses in relation to the transmission of information in order to draw up an improvement plan.
  • Identify the people, groups and departments who hold the most relevant knowledge.
    Develop knowledge-based value generation strategies.
    Provide high value added technical knowledge.
    Train users and answer their queries.
  • Define the process for the transfer of knowledge, usually using a computer system.
    Develop mechanisms to create, organise and distribute knowledge within the company.
    Select technological applications for the management of knowledge (databases, knowledge management for ERP systems, intranets...).
    Develop suitable and efficient information systems, bearing in mind the company's strategy.
    Integrate the necessary internal and external information and knowledge resources.
  • Analyse the company's progress following the application of the improvement plan.
