Description

The indexer is responsible for creating the index for all types of documents in any format, with the aim of helping users easily find the information they need. The indexer's work is to think up ways of organising an index so that the user can easily find information on a specific topic and scan the index in order to know what the document is about.

Tasks

  • Organise, store and retrieve information so that users can have fast and easy access.
  • Research, identify and log documents in order to have an idea of what they are about. Identify key words and phrases in the text, recording their position. Identify the main topics and break them down into sections.
  • Index the photographs, charts and illustrations.
  • Use special computer programmes to search, format and print.
