Description

The functions of these professionals are to grow plants using hydroponic techniques, which are based on plant cultivation where the roots are submerged in water and solutions of mineral salts. This type of cultivation lets plants acquire the chemical properties necessary to survive under better conditions than if they were grown in soil.

Tasks

The main functions of hydroponic crop technicians are:
  • To be in charge of the crops to obtain vegetables by applying hydroponic techniques with the required quality and in compliance with all established health and safety regulations.
  • To prepare nutritional and balanced water-soluble solutions that contain all the essential chemical elements for plant development, including nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, etc.
  • To verify that plants' air to water ratio is balanced, with the aim of avoiding aeration problems and excess oxygenation.
  • To perform draining activities to avoid waterlogging and the consequent asphyxia of the plants.
  • To advise farmers who want to change from traditional cultivation to hydroponics.
  • To supervise and control the growth of the plants grown using hydroponic techniques.
  • To carry out research tests on hydroponic crops in greenhouses and open spaces.
  • To interpret technical data used to perform their tasks.
  • To install the different components of an hydroponics system.
  • To handle and prepare products for marketing and sale.
