Description

Managers of ecological agriculture carry out the planning, production and collection of foodstuffs, in line with regulations that govern ecological production ("organic"), biological control, and often, the marketing of foodstuffs (vegetables and animals) or of their derivatives, produced through farming. These can only be undertaking one agricultural or rancher activity, or one of each. Additionally, they can can also have a first transformation of these foodstuffs under their responsibility (for example, food crafts). Equally, as with other agricultural activities, finances, facility and machinery maintenance, and personnel management (fixed and temporary) all fall under their responsibility. Equally, these functions in low-production operation can be undertaken observing best practises and a rational use of resources.

Tasks

  • Plan and organise production adapted to the demand, seasonal harvests and characteristics of the farm and weather, always following the regulations for the production of environmentally-friendly products.
  • Propose and introduce new crops and/or improve the existing ones.
  • Adapt and manage the workforce according to the needs of each production phase. May be in charge of the permanent workforce, but at times must also manage the temporary workforce.
  • Manage work teams.
  • Establish, organise and supervise daily work schedules.
  • Control the financial management and draw up the operations budget, cost control.
  • Contract the services necessary for the farm (leasing of agricultural machinery, seeds, plant and animal health products, veterinary assistance, harvest insurances, etc.) and control their general maintenance.
  • Manage the sale of the harvests and the production.
  • Plan the training of the workforce.
  • Ensure that the end product complies with the product regulations and manage the use of identification labels from certification bodies.
