Natural therapist

Description

Naturopaths design, develop and implement therapeutic interventions for curative purposes based on naturopathy and on techniques from non-conventional medicine. They aim to improve the physical and psychological recovery processes of individuals with manifest conditions, whether as specific activities or as complementary activities, as a part of an overall care programme. Naturopathy is based on a physiotherapeutic principle that health is maintained by the body itself using its inherent systems of curing and balance. Therapeutic methods used include techniques from naturopathic disciplines (based on elements of nature), such as Phytotherapy, Aromatherapy, Thalassotherapy, Balneology, Climatology, Heliotherapy, Geotherapy, Thermotherapy, Medical Hydrotherapy and Hydrology, Oligotherapy, Kinesitherapy, Diet Therapy, Colour Therapy and manual techniques of mobilisation and therapeutic massage.

Tasks

  • Take a patient's medical history or interpret his or her diagnosis in order to establish the programme and specifically direct treatment sessions.
    Examine a patient and diagnose his or her condition based on the principles of the natural medicine practiced. May use non-conventional diagnosis techniques, such as Iridology and Kinesiology.
    Conduct an in-depth interview of the patient to determine all internal and external factors relating to the causes of the manifest disorders or problems.
    Identify and classify the main features of the patient's personality and character. If doctor, interpret and utilise other diagnostic systems and medical history provided by the patient, from the perspective of other medicines.
    If doctor, evaluate the effectiveness of other treatments performed on the patient to treat the disorders or manifest conditions.
    Identify and determine, for all symptoms discussed, the causal factors involved in the onset of the disorder, according to the homeopathic priniples.
  • Design individually, or with other professionals, a personalised treatment and therapy for the patient's problems or condition in an attempt to improve the patient's physical and mental recovery processes, based on treatment choices of natural techniques and methods.
    Recommend a natural treatment based on the technique of the specialty or based on a combination of several complementary techniques, such as Diet Therapy and Oligotherapy.
    Decide which natural substances should be administered or used during sessions.
    Provide information on the medicinal propeties of natural homeopathic substances and on the proper way to administrate the dosis of the natural substances to be taken.
    Provide information on the compatibilities and incompatibilities of natural substances with other treatments.
    Provide information on the timeframe of the treatment and recommend, if necessary, other therapies.
  • Develop therapy sessions applying natural therapy methods.
    Conduct the sessions by applying therapeutic methodologies related to every discipline and utilising appropriate substances (water, mud, colours, flowers, lights, etc.).
    Provide information on the characteristics of the therapy session and on the function of each element or natural substance.
  • Clinically monitor patients' progress.
    Modify and make changes to the initial work plan, based on the results of the sessions.
  • Care for and ensure that therapy tools and instruments used in work sessions and the equipment in the work area are maintained in perfect conditions of maintenance, hygiene and cleanliness.
    Perform disinfection and hygiene tasks specifically for work instruments and physical equipment.
    Ensure that natural substances used in sessions are properly maintained.
  • Undergo specialisation and enhancement courses on innovations in naturopathy and the particular specialty.
