Description

This professional is in charge of instructing, motivating and leading an individual or group of sportsmen in high-mountain areas. He/she operates in a difficult environment , leading mountaineering, climbing and canyoning activities, in which he/she must guarantee safe conditions and adapt activities to the characteristics of the participants and environmental conditions.

Tasks

  • Organise, inform and provide behavioural guidelines to carry out mountain-related activities (mountaineering, rock climbing, ski, canyoning).
    Choose the climbing route or itinerary depending on the nature of the client and the environmental/metereological conditions.
    Organise all necessary resources (vehicles, hostels and shelters, refreshment points, signs, etc.) to ensure the activity is run successfully.
    Inform the group about the equipment and material (type of clothes and footwear, technical mountaineering equipment, sun protection, etc.) needed to carry out the activity.
    Prepare and look after the specific material for the activity provided by the organisation.
  • Guide and teach clients.
    Assess the proficiency of different participants.
    Teach specific techniques in order to carry out the activity safely.
    Ensure the activity runs smoothly.
    Offer climate and geography-related information about the setting.
    Recognise any meteorological or environmental indications of risk and act carefully in order to avoid dangerous situations.
  • Implement safety and support measures.
    Determine the necessary preventive measures and resources for the activity to be run safely.
    Help with rescue tasks and apply first aid in the case of accidents.
    Apply survival strategies in extreme situations.
