Description
The yacht deck sailor (deckhands) performs the most basic tasks related to the ordinary operation of the boat. Their exact tasks on deck may vary depending on the type of boat they work on. They are responsible for monitoring the state of conservation of the facilities and equipment on board, cleaning and order as well as the proper arrangement of all the elements on the boat's deck.
They also provide support regarding all auxiliary and support tasks that may be required for the effective operation of the boat.
Tasks
Training
There is a theoretical and practical course that aims to prepare the student for emergency situations on board and to respond immediately applying procedures and actions that minimize potential hazards in matters of fire fighting, rescue, survival and accident prevention on board. It is necessary to be in possession of this specialization certificate; it is necessary for all those people who want to carry out professional activities on all types of boats ranging from small boats to large cruise ships, as well as for activities of all types: hostesses, waiters, mechanics, skippers, among others. The course has a duration of 70 hours of which 45 hours correspond to the theoretical content and 25 hours for practice in which survival at sea with boats, fire fighting at the fire station with real simulations and first aid will be done.
Certificate of Basic Safety Training, which is approved in Spain by the DGMM -DIRECCION General de la Marina Mercante- and the United Kingdom by the MCA -Maritime and Coastguard Agency-.
Medical examination by the ISM (Social Institute of the Navy)
