The yacht deck sailor (deckhands) performs the most basic tasks related to the ordinary operation of the boat. Their exact tasks on deck may vary depending on the type of boat they work on. They are responsible for monitoring the state of conservation of the facilities and equipment on board, cleaning and order as well as the proper arrangement of all the elements on the boat's deck.

They also provide support regarding all auxiliary and support tasks that may be required for the effective operation of the boat.

• Includes organization and operations on board, procedures for loading and unloading materials and supplies necessary for the proper functioning of the ship, basic navigation functions and, in general, any other support function for the ship's personnel.
• Maintains the ship's deck facilities in a perfect state of cleanliness, carrying out the corresponding tasks and ensuring that the cleaning tools and materials are adequate.
• Knows the mooring and securing manoeuvres of the boat; provides support on an auxiliary basis.
• Knows the safety regulations and ensures their application and observance on the deck of the ship.
• In case the yacht has passengers, he or she will assist to ensure the comfort and safety of the boat, participating in welcoming and providing information.
• Coordinates with those responsible for the navigation of the yacht in order to ensure the fulfilment of the tasks entrusted to him/her and foresees the management of extraordinary situations on board

Regulated training and graduates

There is a theoretical and practical course that aims to prepare the student for emergency situations on board and to respond immediately applying procedures and actions that minimize potential hazards in matters of fire fighting, rescue, survival and accident prevention on board. It is necessary to be in possession of this specialization certificate; it is necessary for all those people who want to carry out professional activities on all types of boats ranging from small boats to large cruise ships, as well as for activities of all types: hostesses, waiters, mechanics, skippers, among others. The course has a duration of 70 hours of which 45 hours correspond to the theoretical content and 25 hours for practice in which survival at sea with boats, fire fighting at the fire station with real simulations and first aid will be done.

  The sailor of a boat does not have a regular schedule since the needs of the service must be taken care of continuously, respecting the times of rest and recreation as legally established.
