Description

Operations and port services engineers are professionals who work at a port and are charged with the provision of port services and the authorisation and control of operations for ships.
The main function of this professional is to coordinate and monitor port operations and services for freight and passenger ships (such as the operations of stowage and unstowage ŋ that is, placing the loads on the ship or emptying the same- and loading and unloading) and for other port users and to facilitate the resolution of incidents associated with operation.

Tasks

The main duties of a operations and port services engineer are as follows:
  • Monitor port operations and services for ships such as stowage and unstowage and loading and unloading, delivery and receipt and their influence on the planning of operations, as well as the coordination of said actions.
  • Manage commercial traffic following the pre-established schedule, and assist in management duties.
  • Manage the services of cranes, deck space, water and electricity and ensure their proper operation.
  • Prepare reports of services rendered to vessels, deck space, etc., and report incidents and breakdowns to be resolved.
  • Facilitate the resolution of incidents associated with intermodal shift or the inspection of goods (road, rail, etc.).
  • Control water and sports traffic and related service.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of facilities and infrastructure associated with operations.
  • Prepare reports, studies, proposals and budgets related to the activity and manage the administrative documentation related thereto.
