Description

The main function of this professional is to perform administrative duties entrusted to them by the shipping company, i.e. the company which owns and operates merchant and/or passenger ships. They are responsible for drawing up cargo and crew documentation and dealing with the reception and delivery of cargo.
This professional works on board the ship, i.e. at sea.

Tasks

The main duties of a ship's purser are as follows, although which ones they actually perform will depend on the type of passenger/cargo ship:
  • Send cargo and crew documentation to the company on a regular basis.
  • Take an inventory of and manage the ship's cargo.
  • Monitor delivery or reception of cargo in port.
  • Process cargo and crew documentation.
  • Check international trade regulations and deal with port customs.
  • Evaluate costs and manage the ship¿s expenses budget.
  • Contact suppliers to process orders.
