Pharmacoeconomics is the study of the costs and profits derived from medical treatments and technologies. It encompasses a rnageof skills and knowledge which includes economics, epidemiology, decision analysis and biostatistical analysis. Due to the economic pressures exerted on healthcare systems, the undeniable visibility of the amounts spent by consumers on medications and the growing competition for the healthcare market in the United States have all boosted the development of new methods to assess healthcare costs and results. Pharmacoeconomics is becoming an integral part of drug development and marketing and as a result the number of clinical trial protocols, including the collection of data necessary to pharmacoeconomic analysis, is increasing on a daily basis. The pharmacoeconomic manager is the person in charge of devising and implementing these studies and protocols in the pharmaceutical industry.

• Draw up the strategy applicable to the local economic report used to support price and reimbursement negotiations regarding company products.
• Coordinate and draw up pharmaco-economic product reports for drug evaluation committees in the central framework, autonomous communities and hospitals, and presents these to the different committees when required.
• Adapt existing pharmaco-economic models and create new ones in response to existing needs.
• Participate in drawing up disease load and quality of life assessment protocols and the inclusion of pharmaco-economic variables.
• Coordinate with the departments involved: Market access, marketing, business intelligence, key accounts (major accounts), institutional relations and general management.
• Attend international meetings and congresses.
• Draw up product support documents based on economic evaluations.
• Define the pharmaco-economic plan for first line or pre-launch products.
