Description

Health administrator managers evaluate and provide solutions with everything related to the efficiency of organisations and healthcare systems, as well as the use of resources (human, technological, pharmaceuticals, economics, etc.). Plan, direct, manage and evaluate healthcare systems at hospitals, clinics, health centres, agencies and public health organisations and related institutions.

They may also provide consultancy, evaluation and study services to public and private institutions. Comprehensively analyse issues ranging from the use of a new medicine or technology to managing a healthcare centre, from an insurance firm or health system. Contribute advanced knowledge on economics, management and health, to attain better rationality and efficiency of resources to benefit fairness and social wellbeing.

Tasks

  • Run the planning, organisation and management of a healthcare centre or service.
    Draw up reports and studies regarding the centre's economic and financial situation.
    Draw up quotes, taking available resources into account.
    Control expenditure adjustments in quotes and analyse any potential deviations from budget.
    Manage human resources, maximising their potential according to the needs of the centre or service.
    Promote incentive policies.
    Manage different services, their interrelation and priority criteria.
    Introduce, manage and promotes quality plans.
  • Healthcare management consultant.
    Carry out critical assessments of healthcare institutions and systems.
    Draw up and implement strategies in companies and health centres.
    Propose organisational changes in management, priority systems, human resource and equipment distribution, etc.
  • Carry out financial assessments of drugs and medical technologies.
    Select the method best suited to each situation (cost-efficacy, cost-utility, cost-benefit analyses, etc.)
    Apply the chosen method(s).
    Analyse and interpret results.
  • Analyse and assess healthcare costs and the efficiency and effectiveness of expenditures.
    Carry out analytical cost-effectiveness studies (CEA).
    Conduct or analyse patient/customer satisfaction surveys.
    Assess the perceived quality-of-life of patients, general customers or citizens.
    Implement healthcare information systems to evaluate products and costs.
  • Contribute to drawing up all-inclusive pharmaceutical and healthcare policy plans, proposing measures to rationalise pharmaceutical expenditure and guarantee the sustainability of healthcare systems.
    Propose measures to improve professional and material conditions (longer appointment times, computerised appointment systems, training programmes).
    Propose resource management measures (implementation of guidelines and protocols taking into account pharmaceutical-financial criteria, coordination between different levels of assistance)
    Propose preventative measures, such as healthcare education programmes.
