Description

Directors of Logistic Operations are in charge of managing the logistic operations of the company, including economic and operational aspects with the aim of responding to supply, production and distribution requirements and anticipates the availability of resources accordingly.

The purpose of these professionals is to manage available resources and define internal merchandise intake and outflow processes, as well as quality levels, to guarantee a competitive product and service. In addition, carry out strategic logistics planning for the company and manage the functions of Scheduling, Purchasing, Production Planning and Physical Distribution (finished product stocks, warehouses, purchase order preparation and transportation) operations, as well as the launch of new products.

Likewise, their working day is characterized by continuous coordination with all the agents involved in the logistics process, given that constant communication must be maintained with suppliers, subcontracted businesses and professionals from other departments of the company in order to carry out constant negotiations, take decisions and seek solutions to unexpected problems, ensuring the overall operation of the flow of materials and information.

Directors of logistics operations operate mostly in large businesses with production or storage facilities based in different countries and a national and international transport network. Due to the increasingly competitive and global climate, these professionals are becoming a key figure in terms of the global strategy of the company. Whereas before they only handled transport and stocks, now they even participate in the management committees of the companies, providing new formulas to improve logistics processes.

Tasks

Ensure clients receive the requested supplies and maximise the use of resources and stocks.
  • Control and implement the follow-up of technical operation parameters.
  • Monitor the development of the logistics schedule and establish the correlation between the logistics policy and customer service objectives

Define the logistic strategy of the company, stock levels and the necessary means of production.
  • Define the logistics systems used by the organisation and the methodology required to solve potential problems in systems and operational methods.
  • Define the criteria applicable to the intermodality and traceability of the flow of products.
  • Define the management and control key figures for the logistics function.
  • Establishes general criteria regarding the rating and selection of suppliers, as well as the integration and externalisation criteria applicable to logistics functions.
  • Assess the need for resources and the extent of the work to be done with distributors, customers and suppliers as a result.

Evaluate and propose improvements
  • Evaluate the costs of strategic planning and review planning methods and procedures, taking initiatives to reduce losses, implementing improvement plans and provide advice regarding the optimisation of the various components of the logistics chain (Supply Chain Management).
  • Define logistics collaboration with customers and suppliers, seeking the optimisation of the logistics chain.
  • Evaluate the necessary requirements with regard to logistics investments and provide advice regarding the logistic commitments of the company in terms of cost/investment.
  • Provide advice on the use of the ICT in logistics operations and regarding technological changes.

Carry out the overall logistical planning of the company.
  • Manage the overall planning and all control activities related to the flow of materials and finished products.
  • Take strategic decisions, aiming for global profits and economies of scale according to market needs.
  • Study potential logistics partnerships with clients and suppliers and monitor the results of the logistic policy.
  • Study the relevant plans and operations with the operational managers in charge, in charge of implementing them and coordinate and carry out the follow-up of operational reports.

Prepare standards and procedures related to security and occupational and environmental health within the logistical area.
  • Intervene in the definition of the environmental policy of the company and control the environmental parameters in order to minimise the impact of the operation on the environment.
