Description

Language and social cohesion advisors work in the educational environment (mainly in teaching centres, pedagogical resource centres and psycopedagogical counselling teams) performing technical assistance activities aimed at encouraging the integration of migrant people in the host society from a perspective of communicative and educational intervention. Support teachers in addressing the diversity related to students, especially from migration or students at risk of social exclusion in educational centres and the Local Educative Programmes (Plans Educatius d'Entorn). Their target group are educational centres, management teams, teaching staff, students and their families and other agents within the educational community.

In short, they advise teaching staff in the education response to students from minority cultures in order to improve attention to cultural and social diversity and the inclusion of all students. Also collaborate with other social and educational workers from the local and regional context in order to offer integrated and community care, and work with area's educational service to promote exchange activities and teacher training.

Tasks

These professionals carry out the following advice, support and guidance tasks in teaching centres:
  • Inclusion and attention to cultural and social diversity.
  • Prevent risk situations.
  • Promote knowledge and use of the Catalan language.
  • Interculturalism, coexistence and social cohesion.
  • Learning processes: methodologies, resources and inclusive internship programmes.
These professionals carry out the following advice, support and coordination tasks in the area according to the Local Educational Programmes:
  • Detect community needs and set common goals.
  • Impulse the creation of Local Educative Programmes.
  • Plan community learning processes.
  • Promotion or creation of working groups or interprofessional reflection.
  • Encourage and monitor actions in order to promote the participation of the entire educational community.
  • Promote the creation of networks of centres.
  • Coordinate the actions related to the social and personal resources of other administrations.
  • Create assessment reports and suggestions for improvement.
  • Include the Local Educational Programmes' objectives in the local and these professionals' centre's educational programmes and other programmes in the area.
