This is the professional who works at a university carrying out research, teaching and management functions. The objectives they have for each of these are: to conduct research in the field of their own discipline or specialty and the teaching activity itself; to carry out a set of pre-, inter- and post-active teaching activities in order to ensure the students' learning; and to carry out three types of management tasks, the ones specific to the department, those of the faculty or school and those of the university.

• Research and carry out studies and projects in the field of their own discipline or specialty.
• Participate in conferences, seminars and meetings associated with their field of research.
• Publish articles in scientific journals in their field of research.
  

• Carry out theoretical and practical teaching at any university.
• Tutor students in order to address questions and concerns.
• Prepare teaching materials or examinations by selecting the content and materials for the students and their presentation.
• Correct examinations and evaluate the students.
• Manage doctoral theses and works to be written by the students.
  

• Participate in educational innovation or teaching training programmes and carry out academic coordination.
• Participate in the university's management tasks and the processes related to the admission of students in educational programmes related to their specialties.
  

Regulated training and graduates

The university lecturer must have at least a university degree equivalent to the old degree or the current degree (according to the Bologna model), engineering, architecture and have a PhD in any subject. The specialty of the degree will determine the subjects which they can teach.
