Civility Agent

Description

Civil agents offer information, raise awareness about, and promote civic behaviour, with the aim of fostering coexistence and respect amongst citizens, as well as encouraging proper use of public and private resources in the city. Their tasks seek to help citizens to exercise their rights and duties in relation to current civic regulations. This role may take in various fields related to the cleaning of roads, the management of waste, dog owning and mobility. They also deal with citizens' queries, complaints and suggestions and are involved in organising civic behaviour campaigns. At the same time, they are responsible for reporting and describing any disrespectful behaviour they witness, although they do not under any circumstances have the power to impose penalties.

Tasks

  • Spread and promote civic behaviour amongst users of public spaces and services (public transport, parks and gardens, shopping streets, etc.).
    Design and implement activities aiming to improve the image and quality of services offered in public spaces.
    Carry out civic culture awareness initiatves among the users of the public spaces, as part of related public campaigns and policies, so as to ensure that citzens' rights and duties are fully respected on public thoroughfares.
    Perform support tasks to help specific groups or dependent people who so require to make use of public spaces (e.g. the elderly, the disabled, etc.)
    Verbally reprimand any examples of antisocial and occasionally violent conduct, and contact other public or private security services that operate within the geographic precinct in question.
  • Provide useful information (addresses, location of public transport, pay phones) about the resources, facilities, amenities and other organisations or institutions located within their area.
    Provide information about the services available at the different shopping centres, both outdoor and indoor, and ensure proper use and maintenance of public facilities within these sites.
    Perform support tasks to help dependent people who so require (the elderly, the disabled, etc.) to make use of particular facilities (lifts, escalators, etc.).
    Promote citizen access to public resources within their area, as well as awareness thereof.
  • Carry out improvement and repair works on public facilities, where no technically complex repairs are required.
    Inform the relevant authorities of any facilities that are not working properly, so that they can be repaird or replaced.
