Description

The main function of these professionals is to collect waste, rubbish and refuse of all kinds that are commonly produced in cities, towns and neighbourhoods.

The type of tasks performed by this professional are influenced by two elements: the impact of technological change on procedures and technical means and the demands for sustainable management of municipal solid waste. Thus, new machinery has been incorporated for waste collection (such as pneumatic container collection or selective collection). Likewise, the social and environmental demands for selective waste collection have added more value to the role of this professional, as different fractions (paper and cardboard, plastics and metals, etc.) now have to be collected. In this sense, new professional specialities have been created, such as the collection of special waste in fixed or mobile collection centres.

These professionals usually work in large companies holding concessions from the administration that provide waste collection services in one or more municipalities.

Tasks

  • Perform the necessary operations in the household collection service, facilitating the unloading inside the rear-loading collector of the containerisation elements. Also carry out the collection of waste without containment elements in compliance with the selective collection criteria.
  • Carry out the necessary operations for the collection of bulky waste (furniture, household appliances, mattresses, sofas, electrical appliances, etc.), the washing of containerisation elements in rear loading and container movements.
  • Collect waste fractions. Normally, with the widespread use of separate collection containers, collection in some cases is done mechanically from a conditioned lorry.
  • Management of waste collection points. For special waste, but also domestic waste, the clean points are facilities with specific opening hours where citizens can go directly to take household appliances, oils, batteries or clothes, among any other products.
  • Periodic collection of waste left in the street or deposited outside the containers.
  • Know and comply with the Quality, Prevention and Environmental Management System, as well as those specific to their trade and place of work.

  • Execution of the tasks of driving the container washer service, ensuring the interior and exterior cleaning of the containerisation elements awarded on the established route.
  • Unloading the contents of the collector when it is at maximum capacity and/or at the end of the journey at the assigned treatment facility.
  • Coordination of the assigned work team for the fulfilment of the task.
  • Keeping the vehicle cabin clean and ensuring refuelling.
