Description

These experts work for town councils or supra-local authorities that are partly or completely involved in environmental issues that are managed by the aforesaid public bodies. Depending on the entity in question, there are experts who work in the Department of the Environment or that report directly to the Department of Urban Planning. Depending on the size of the company or municipality, all or some of the tasks related to the environment will be included that are the competence of local entities: from managing different vectors (air, water, waste, noise, etc.), parks and gardens and forested and non-developed areas, as well as working jointly on processes related to local Agendas 21 and environmental assessment, etc.

Tasks

  • Coordinate municipal services on the basis of their environmental behaviour.
  • Implement environmental regulations relevant to the municipality or regional council.
  • Where the municipality subscribes to Agenda 21, apply the predefined sustainability criteria.
  • Supervise and monitor the following environmental vectors in the context of the municipality or region: water supply and treatment, air quality, noise pollution, waste, power, etc.
  • Supervise and monitor the municipality's urban green belt.
    Coordinate regional or local environmental auditing.
  • Manage and monitor natural resources and projects (both private and public) which could potentially have an impact on said resources: forests, parks, streams, agricultural spaces, green corridors, etc.
  • Promote sustainable mobility policies.
  • Be involved in municipal city planning, in all issues of environmental concern.
  • Manage and assess proposals for new activities in line with Law 3/1998 on the Comprehensive Intervention of the Environmental Administration.
  • Promote programmes related to the management of municipal, agricultural and livestock, medical, skip and industrial waste: recycling, treatment, destruction, minimisation, selective waste collection, etc.
  • Promote sustainability initiatives within the jurisdiction of the municipal or regional council: saving natural resources (water and energy) in municipal offices, determining purchasing policy on the basis of sustainability criteria, etc.
  • Supervise and monitor wastewater treatment plants, collection centres, etc.
  • Promote the implementation of environmental management systems in industrial and services facilities within the municipality.
  • Design and apply environmental indicators on a municipal or regional scale.
  • Promote and apply environmental education and awareness programmes aimed at the general public or at specific groups.
