The invention of the lift made it possible to construct high-rise buildings, facilitating access to the different levels of the buildings in a fast and effortless manner. Today, it is the means of transport that moves the most people. Currently, lifting devices are greatly used in buildings and industries to transport both people and goods. There are different types with a variety of functions and uses: fixed and temporary lifts for works, escalators, moving walkways, fixed or temporary service lifts, lifting platforms, etc. The installer and repairer of lifting devices is a professional specialised in the carrying out of different jobs related to the installation, repair and maintenance of the different types of lifting equipment for people and goods.

• Carry out a previous study of the work area or space, organising and planning the process and mechanics of the works.
• Interpret the assembly plans and sketches.
• Break down the elements that are to be installed or set up.
• Take measurements based on the plans and on site.
• Select the basic materials and equipment, as well as the auxiliary pieces.
• Set out the different elements that are to be set up or installed, drawing the levels and plumb lines.
• Arrange the work platforms.
• Place the guides.
• Install the mechanical part of the lifts, frameworks, gear unit, steel cables, etc.
• Set up the doors of the different floors and accesses.
• Install the mechanisms.
• Install the different electrical components of the machine room and shaft.
• Install the electrical and control panels.
• Assemble and install the cabins.
• Install the lighting, telephone communication systems and safety systems.
• Conduct the tests and put the system into operation.
• Carry out various maintenance and repair works on lifting devices.
• Certify the systems.
• Maintain the tools, machinery and equipment used for the work.
• Handle the objects, tools, materials, auxiliary resources as well as the group and individual protections that are necessary for carrying out the works.
